Biblia cum pleno apparatu summariorum [...]. Lyon: Jacques Sacon, 1511, 8vo.
-------------------
The extremely rare first edition of Jacques Sacon's octavo Bible for which USTC records only 7 copies held institutionally worldwide, with NO COPIES IN THE UNITED STATES, and only one copy in the UK (Bodleian). This edition is one of very few printed by Sacon independently from Anton Koberger. It is also a notably early Bible in the portable and convenient octavo format, among the very first Bibles to be printed in this now standard format which were instrumental in spreading the text of the Bible to lay persons preceding the Reformation.

Size: 120 x 163 mm (approx.)
Condition:
[(1), a-z8, A-Z8, AA-QQ8, RR4, (1)].
18th century full vellum finely stamped in blind, the front board with the features darker. Binding a little rubbed, but generally very good and attractive. Both boards are securely attached. Clasps partially present but lacks the halves following off the front board and so these aren't functional, as typically encountered. Some pencil writing to front and rear pastedowns in German. Some sporadic contemporary marginalia in two distinct hands, both of which are certainly 16th century, both probably prior to 1550, but one of which (the smaller script) is certainly very early. Many leaves mispaginated as printed, but the signatures follow as they should throughout the full extent of the text. Some leaves are slightly trimmed. Final leaf trimmed at the foot but not losing any text. Some dampstaining, largely confined to each end of the text block, some toning, etc, but generally clean throughout, as pictured. Lacks the preliminary and conclusive matter, but preserves the complete text of the Bible (i.e. Genesis to Revelation), including the complete Epistola sancti hieronymi at the opening.
