The Bible, with concordances of the Old and New Testaments and of the sacred canons... and also the ancient canons of the four Gospels inserted, revised, corrected, and emended with the utmost care. Nuremberg: Jacques Sacon for Anton Koberger, 12 January 1515, folio.
-------------------
A beautiful copy of one of the rare folio Latin Bibles produced by Jacques Sacon for Anton Koberger, especially rare to encounter collating as complete as with this copy. This edition is richly and extensively illustrated and includes the beautiful six panel woodcut of Creation. Several of the illustrations and initials are also finely coloured by an early hand - of particular note is the large woodcut of King Solomon which has very fine colouring indeed.
This was the last of the Sacon/Koberger series of folio Bibles to include the original title page format which was replaced the next year, an example of which can be seen at our website on a copy of that edition we handled recently. Just like that copy, this is one of the finest obtainable: it is complete, in an early binding, and with some beautiful hand colouring.

Circa late 16th century full calf over wooden boards, historic rebacking preserving some of the original backstrip, including the tooled red morocco title label ("Biblia"). Binding rubbed with losses, but generally attractive. Both boards securely attached, joints and hinges secure. Front endpaper and pastedowns later, but are not later than 1796. Externally attractive despite the wear to the boards, shows well on the shelf.
Light marginal dampstaining and small ink stains to a small number of leaves. Scattered spotting, mild toning, but generally bright, fresh, and clean throughout. The title and two other leaves have an oval stamp at the border, one of which has an erased inscription inside.

*USTC 616603 also references this edition but mistakenly describes it as octavo, however it references the VD16 reference for this same folio edition with the same collation so it is safe to assume that this is simply an error in USTC.
