A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE FIRST SMALL FOLIO EDITION OF THE KING JAMES BIBLE, COMPLETE WITH BOTH TITLE PAGES AND THE DOUBLE PAGE MAP.

-------------------

A rare early edition of the King James Bible, printed with the beautiful engraved Genealogies. This edition was released with the stunning double page map which is usually lacking but is present in this copy, as are both engraved title pages and the fine engraved frontispiece of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden under the Tetragrammaton, here bound opposite Genesis 1. An exceptional copy of this scarce early King James Bible, very rare in such excellent condition and state of completeness.

Size: 220 x 315 mm (approx.)

Condition:

[(2), A-C6, D2, a4, b6, A-Z6, 2A-2Z6, 3A-3Z6, 4A-4T6 (-4B6), 4U7, (1)]

Modern full calf, both boards securely attached, binding secure, stands without shelf lean. An attractive copy, binding in fine condition. Lacks two blanks (4B6 & 4U8) else collates as complete including the double-page map, both titles, Genealogies, Apocrypha, and the complete text of the Old and New Testaments. Original blank present at the front. Some restoration to Genealogies title leaf, small loss to text of verso. Page block trimmed occasionally slightly catching a signature or catch-word. N5 & 4N4 lower corner repaired with slight loss to a few words of text, 4C6 & 4Q6 repaired without text loss. Some very light dampstaining in the upper right corner throughout, but largely unnoticeable until towards the end of the book, being more prominent at the end of the New Testament but never making any text illegible. Mildly toned throughout as typical but generally very clean throughout, with, aside from the aforementioned small cases, the full text legible and without loss of sense. A few ownership inscriptions in places throughout ranging in date, the most recent being 1905. A remarkably well preserved copy, particularly given its completeness, and correspondingly a very hard to come by example.
