A New Family Bible, Containing the Old and New Testaments, with Notes, Illustrations, and Practical Improvements. Selected from the Exposition of the Reverend Matthew Henry, by the Reverend E. Blomfield. Embellished with Fifty Beautiful Engravings. In Two Volumes. London: George Virtue, c.1840s.

-------------------

A beautiful two volume set of the King James Bible. A fantastic antique edition with beautiful full-page illustrations throughout both volumes. The set is beautiful bound in contemporary full calf.

Worldcat suggests a date of circa the 1860s, but because our copy has a written date of 1847, and that Worldcat expressed uncertainty in their attribution, we feel more confident in placing the date circa the 1840s.

[frontis, engraved t.p., t.p., 2pp., pp.1-882]; [t.p., pp.1-732]

Contemporary full calf, very attractive on the shelf, retaining both tooled red morocco labels. Bindings rubbed with scuffs to boards, but generally remain attractive. Joints cracked with all boards securely attached, reinforced with binder's tape to the hinges of each board, the front board of the second volume having been backed onto the edge of the title page. Blind stamp design to borders of boards. Bindings secure without shelf lean. Page edges marbled with top edges slightly dulled as typically found. Light foxing to endpapers and to some of the illustrated plates throughout (recto and verso). Very clean throughout the text blocks. Very nice tooled morocco bookplate to front pastedown of both volumes. Lacks blanks at the front of the second volume, else, collates as complete. The tissue guard for the frontis and engraved title page in the first volume is creased and folded over. No ownership inscriptions located, but with a written date at the head of the ffep in the first volume, dated February 9th 1847.
