A fantastic collection of 10 medieval manuscript fragments or leaves, ranging in date from the 13th to 15th centuries. Perfect for teaching or research as there are a nice variety of sizes and scripts here.

-------------------

The two full leaves are very nicely preserved manuscripts, one is a leaf of a work by Richard of St. Lawrence who writes in praise of the Virgin Mary (c.1275, 133 x 181 mm) in a very attractive neat miniscule hand. This is quite a rare early witness to this text quite close to the author's lifetime. The other full leaf is an illuminated leaf from a Franciscan Breviary, circa the late 13th century, with four initials in red and blue with flourishes (150 x 188 mm).

There are then 6 cuttings from a circa 14th century as yet unidentified work, with all six most probably originating from the same parent manuscript, each with fine rubrication, some with attractively decorated initials with fleuronne flourishes. These six are very well preserved indeed and are attractive bright cuttings, one of which has some beautiful medieval marginalia at the foot. Most of these cuttings are approximately 107 x 107 mm squares, and the one with the marginalia is a little smaller at 91 x 91 mm.

The last two leaves are some smaller fragments of another unidentified work, this time written on vellum, both belonging to the same parent MS. These have clearly been rescued from a binding at some time, but despite that, still retain great legibility. These are 44 x 136 mm, and 55 x 138 mm, circa 1425, and are probably from a Breviary, but  this is not confirmed.
