Novum Testamentum Graecum. [...]. Studio et Labore Joannis Millii. Lipsiae: Filii J. Friderici Gleditschii, 1723, folio.
-------------------
A magnificent Greek New Testament, the important scholarly edition of John Mills, with fine decoration, in a contemporary Amsterdam vellum presentation binding, with the presentation leaf extant bound prior to the half-title, dated March 26 1730.
-------------------
Size: 236 x 345 mm (approx.)
Condition:
Contemporary full vellum (bound c.1723-30), repeating gilt royal motif in compartments to spine, with the arms of Amsterdam in gilt to both boards. Binding with some discolouration, mildly rubbed, but very attractive indeed, with both boards securely attached and the binding secure. Remnants of original ties extant. Small neat ink inscription to head of ffep recto seemingly describing this as an optimal edition for study. An additional leaf is bound in before the half-title, a presentation leaf dated March 26 1730, this book being presented to Joanni Jacobo Prins for 'outstanding progress in the liberal arts' by G.J. Zilleken. Very clean throughout the text, bright, occasional foxing and a few small stains, but overall, internally, this is a most excellent copy.
