A New Hieroglyphical Bible For the Amusement and Instruction of Children […]. London: G. Thompson, 1794.
-------------------
A very rare notably early Hieroglyphic Bible, where Bible stories are explained with key words replaced with pictures. This copy is especially notable for being preserved in its contemporary boards, which is exceedingly rare. This edition was seemingly also released with a different variant title leaf (see ESTC T123482) which is described as the "first edition thus", and so presumably this copy also fits that description.
-------------------
Size: 85 x 136 mm (approx.)
Condition:
[[2], A-L6, M5]
Original pictorial boards, rubbed with loss, discolouration, early cloth rebacking. Shelf and edge wear. Boards securely attached, binding secure. Contemporary ownership inscription to recto blank of frontis leaf and another to head of A1 verso. Collates as complete except for the final blank (M6). Leaves often loose in binding, partially detached etc, hence uneven at edges. Mildly toned through the text, occasional minor spotting, but generally clean throughout.
