A Selection of Epigrams from All Poets, Both Ancient and Modern, Accurately Compiled. With a Dissertation on True Beauty and Its Representation, in Which the Causes of the Rejection and Selection of Epigrams are Explained Based on Certain Principles. Elegant Sentences are Added, Selected from Ancient Poets, Sparingly But with a More Strict Judgement. Also, Included are Brief Sayings or Proverbs from Greek and Latin Authors. To This Fourth Edition is Added a Sample of Author Selection, from Recently Praised Poets Omitted by the Electors. For the Use of Eton School. London: Published by Sam. Spine cracked and rubbed with a bottom fragment lacking. Tooled label lacking. Headcap and tailcap cracked in half and loosely attached. Both boards attached with binding strings. Joints and hinges cracked. Boards with minor rubbing, scuffing, and marks. Shelf and edge wear. Dulling to page edges. Endpapers toned and with some marks. Pen and pencil ownership inscriptions on ffep with a very small tear to the top corner. Title page lightly toned with pencil underlining. Very small tear to corner of leaf C. Text block cracked between pages 230 and 231. Text block very clean with toning to edges and very sporadic very minor foxing. Lacking rear pastedown. Toning as commensurate to the binding on rear endpaper. Pencil inscription on rear endpaper.
