A lovely early edition of Captain Cook's South Pole Voyage. This copy is bound without any illustrations, but remains a lovely copy in contemporary full calf bindings.

Contemporary full calf bindings, compartments lined in gilt between raised bands to the spines, each volume retaining its tooled morocco labels. Bindings rubbed, some loss to head of backstrip of first volume, with surface loss to leather of boards, scuffs, etc. Joints rubbed but uncracked with all boards securely attached, the bindings secure, and without shelf lean. Shelf and edge wear with commensurate losses at corners as typical. Page edges very good. Without any attached bookplates, original blanks without hinge reinforcement. Pencil sketch of a horse to front blank of first volume, else without ownership inscriptions. Lacks blank at rear of first volume, both volumes bound without any plates, else both volumes textually collate as complete.
