-------------------

Adriaan Reland (1676-1718) was a Dutch orientalist, cartographer, and philologist. In 1699 Reland became a professor of physics and metaphysics, and later became a professor of oriental languages, and taught Hebrew antiquities. Reland also knew many eastern languages including Hebrew, Arabic, etc, both of which (and more) are included in this book, showing a very impressive typography for the period.

The third part of this series focuses on East Asian myths and is mentioned on Reland's wikipedia page. This three volume set contains 13 dissertations including "dissertatio de Lingus americanis", "dissertatio de linguis insularum quarundam orientalium", and "dissertatio de gemmis arabicis".

This set contains a foldout map of Ceylon and 6 plates, two of which are foldouts, as well as some engraved illustrations throughout.

Red spotted page edges somewhat dulled. Corners lightly turned-in. Bookplate attached to front pastedown in volumes one and three. Ink inscriptions to front pastedown in all three volumes. Ink inscription to the rear pastedown in volume one. Text blocks very clean with light toning and occasional foxing. Small damp stain to the bottom of the leaves in volume three. Some pencil marginalia to the rear of volume one. Leaf F4 in volume two mislabelled as F3. Edge toning to endpapers as commensurate with the full leather bindings. Few leaves dog-eared as when unfolded they protrude from the external uniformity of the page block edges.
