Publisher's red cloth binding with character gilt designs to both boards and gilt title to spine. The red binding is vivid, lightly rubbed with some marks. Both boards attached with joints starting, front hinge cracked, and rear hinge starting, thus somewhat fragile. Shelf and edge wear. All edges gilt with some very minor scratches. Spine very lightly cocked, book remains upright securely. Ink gift inscription to the head of the half title. Text block extremely clean with light edge toning and very occasional foxing. No illustrations have been coloured in like is often present. A remarkably clean copy.
