First illustrated edition. Illustrated throughout with numerous engravings on weapons, crowns, and depictions of soldiers in their armour. There is also an engraving on an armoured elephant, among many others. A beautiful book, very scarce.

Contemporary full vellum with a dulled ink title to the spine. Binding rubbed and scuffed with some marks. Both boards attached with the front hinge cracked, else minor wear to joints and the rear hinge. Part of the backstrip cracked at the front joint.Text block very clean with light edge toning and very occasional foxing. No attached bookplates. Some damp staining to the first few leaves and few occasional corners. Lacking front blanks. Ink inscription to the head of the front pastedown. Pencil inscriptions to the front and rear pastedown as well as to the rear blank. The main text ends on pp.597(2L7) and restarts on 2M5, thus lacking 5 leaves. Tears with some loss of text to three index pages (2M5-2M7).
