The Book of Common Prayer, and Administration of the Sacraments, and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church, According to the Use of the United Church of England and Ireland: Together with the Psalter or the Pslams of David, Pointed as the Sung or Said in Churches; and the Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining, and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons. Oxford: Oxford University Press, 1854, 8vo. [Together with a New Version of Pslams of David by N. Tate and N. Brady. Oxford University Press, 1848].

-------------------

A stunning fine binding bound in full morocco, really a lavish production with all page edges gilt, fantastic typography, with large margins, clear text, and the type in red and black, in some places resembling the rubrication of the early printed versions. The designs to the boards resemble linenfold panelling with roses in the centre, thus linking the Book of Common Prayer to its Tudor roots.

The binding is secure and without shelf lean. All edges gilt, with the typical scratches and minor discolouration. Bookseller sticker to head of front pastedown, else, without any bookplates. Ink gift inscription to ffep verso, reading "To Anna Sterling on her marriage, from her most dear and affectionate father ? Sterling. Remember thy God!"
