-------------------

A fantastic early printing of the King James Bible from 1637, here bound with the beautiful illustrated Genealogies as was printed in the first edition of the KJV, and was scarcely included following around this period. This copy also includes an incomplete Book of Psalms also from 1637, and an early incomplete Book of Common Prayer, being particularly special as this is printed prior to the 1662 revision. A wonderful early KJV Bible in a rebacked contemporary full calf binding.

Size: 113 x 174 mm (approx.)

Condition:

Contemporary full calf, the boards blindstamped in a simple panelled manner typical of the period. The binding is rebacked, having been done fairly early. Interestingly it appears the original spine is present underneath; the rebacking seems to have been to resecure the boards but quite possibly in the same century as printing. Subsequently, both boards are securely attached and the binding is secure. Binding rubbed with some losses, including to the corners as typical, but remains original save for the rebacking and so is rather charming indeed. Some non-uniformity to the page edges due to some leaves & gatherings being partially detached as often, or misbound. An incomplete copy, uncollated, but lacks many leaves in all sections, including the BCP and OT title pages, though retains the NT title. The majority of the text of the Bible itself is complete, though notably lacks gathering A of Genesis. Several ink ownership inscriptions throughout dating between 1680 and the late 1800s, and so much of the provenance of this copy can be traced. The text is mildly toned throughout as commensurate with the period, largely clean through the text block but with the typical sporadic damp staining, generally not affecting the legibility of the text. A very charming early King James Bible printed in the 1630s.
