-------------------

The famous 1769 Boden & Adams printing of the King James Bible, the FIRST BIBLE PRINTED IN BIRMINGHAM according to D&M, preceding Baskerville's.

Provenance:

Very attractive tooled blue morocco label to front pastedown of Nicholas Walmsley dated 1771, with his ownership inscription to the final page.

The endpapers have been replaced, but attached is a bifolium document with genealogical entries written on vellum, dating between 1829 and 1840, relating to the 'Savery' family from a place called Silverton, presumably the village in Devon, England.

Size: 280 x 431 mm (approx.)

Condition:

[(1), t.p., i-vi, B1-9N1, t.p., 9O1-11I-11I4, t.p., 4pp, B1-3S3, i-xxii, (1)]

Recent full coral (colour) folio binding, a little rubbed in places, with the spine slightly distressed. Page edges dulled, a little discoloured as typical, but very attractive. Endpapers replaced, preserving the earlier contemporary tooled blue morocco ownership label of Nicholas Walmsley which is very attractive indeed. Title page repaired, backed on to newer paper. Very clean throughout the text block, mildly toned as typical, but a very readable antique Bible dating from the 1700s, collating as complete including the apocrypha and very attractive New Testament title page.
