A magnificent 18th century King James Bible in a beautiful contemporary binding with fine blindstamped boards in completely original condition. The text of this edition has stunning typography, large font, generous margins, and extensive commentary from many of the greatest British theologians of the period. Bibles of this size are scarce in such excellent condition as they were produced for church use and typically extensively used for centuries. This copy however seems to have been used by a private individual hence its excellent state of preservation without any restoration.

Contemporary full calf binding, original, boards finely stamped in blind in a panelled manner, repeating motifs in spine compartments between raised bands, original tooled red morocco label extant and very attractive indeed. This Bible shows very well on the shelf indeed. Binding rubbed with scuffs, shelf and edge wear with losses at corners as typical. Mild discolouration to page edges, but generally very good. A little loss at head of backstrip. Both boards are securely attached. The binding is secure, joints secure, some wear at hinges. Contemporary poem inscribed to front pastedown in a neat hand which comments on the benefits of reading Scripture. Some wear to the first few leaves with the general title leaf with some folds, minor losses at corners/edges, etc, but without loss of text. Throughout the text block, it is generally very clean, mild worming to the final few leaves, many genealogical inscriptions to the final blank dated between 1805 and 1843 relating to the "Biggers" family. Index bound at the rear with some foxing, very mild foxing sporadically throughout. Uncollated, but appears to be complete.
