Appian's Ancient Roman History 1519 First Edition
Appian's Ancient Roman History 1519 First Edition
Appiano Alexandrino Delle Guerre Civili de Romani Tradotto da Messer Alexadro Braecese Fiorentino nuouamente co somma diligentia impresso. Firenze: Phillippo di Giunta, 1519.
THE IMPORTANT FIRST EDITION OF APPIAN’S HISTORY IN ITALIAN.
-------------------
A very important first edition in any modern language of Appian’s famous Roman history translated by Alessandro Braccesi. This first edition is very rare indeed, especially in commerce. The later 1538 edition typically sells for ~$1,000 at auction. This first edition is very significant - here presenting an exceedingly rare opportunity for the acquisition of this first edition in a beautifully preserved 18th century binding.

Condition:
[(2), t.p., a2-k7 (i.e. 288pp), (2)]
18th century full calf binding, boards lined in gilt, without external identifying features as to the contents. Remarkably well preserved, a little rubbed, but generally near fine. Binding structurally fine with both boards securely attached, without shelf lean. The binding really is in remarkable condition.
The final leaf (printer’s device, k8) is lacking in the collation, otherwise the book collates as complete, though with the blanks being later (18th century). Continental ownership inscription to title page dated 1633 and another seemingly earlier inscription to the foot of the colophon.
