Uniform contemporary half calf over marbled paper backed boards with matching marbled page edges and endpapers. Each volume retains the red and tooled Morocco labels. Spines uniformly sunned, but the set shows very attractively on the shelf. Minor rubbing along the joints but boards securely attached, the bindings secure and without shelf lean. Minor shelf and edge wear. Top page edges uniformly dulled as typical. Board with some scuffs, but most are good to very good or better. Without any attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions, but with a blind-stamp of the binder at the head of each ffep and an ink ownership stamp to the verso of the frontis in volume one and occasionally on other pages in other volumes, including being on the title page in volume three of J. M. McBain, Arbroath. Very minor foxing to endpapers, else, exceptionally clean throughout. Some excellent foldout maps and abundant in-text illustrations and occasional full page plates, most of which as views of various places in the Holy Land, eg. Nazareth, etc. Some of the foldout maps are slightly torn at the joints but most are very good or better. A fantastic set overall.
