Boccaccio's Decameron Giunta Edition 1527 (but 1729)
Size: 185 x 250 x 40 mm (approx.)
Condition:
Probably original binding is very attractive. Spine dulled but shows well on the shelf, retaining its original tooled morocco label which reads 'Il Decameron di Boccaccio'. Front joints cracked but with both boards securely attached. Some light scratches and discolouration to boards with intricate gilt borders bright and attractive. All edges gilt, top edge dulled. Some minor shelf and edge wear. Bookplate to front pastedown of Ascot Lodge with an ink date of 1893. Piece of paper glued to front free endpaper with an 1892 date with another piece of paper glued to verso of title page with some relevance to the Decameron and some ink writing to this leaf dated 1888. Some writing to title page, one dated 1884. The rest of the text block, save for some small initials to the top of AA2 is without any writing. Some minor staining affecting a few leaves throughout but mostly the text block is very clean and bright and shows well.
