Buffon's Natural History was originally written in French and encompasses a wide range of subjects, including the natural history of the Earth, humanity, animals, plants, minerals, and more. It aimed to provide a comprehensive and accessible overview of the natural world as understood in the 18th century.

Meanwhile, the Natural History of Birds, Fish, Insects and Reptiles focuses more on the animals, with each volume focusing on a specific group of animals.

Condition: 

The two sets are rebound in uniform binding with numbered spines 1 to 15; Ten volume natural history set numbered 1 to 10, and five volume set of Natural History of Birds... numbered 11 to 15. Spines with minor wear and few volumes lacking very small fragments of backstrip. All tooled labels present with few lacking label fragments. Tooled label of volume 7 with white marks.  All boards attached with minor wear to joints and hinges, some cracked or starting. Boards scuffed and rubbed. Marbled boards with fragments lacking from volumes the rear boards of volumes 7, 13, and 15. Prominent shelf and edge wear. Toning to page edges. Text blocks very clean with light toning and very sporadic very minor foxing. Uncollated, but the significant number of plates all appear to be present. 

Volume 4 lacking preliminary (i.e. a blank), (small fragment remaining). Corners torn off preliminary in volume 5. Tear to the top corner of leaf numbered 93/94 in volume 5. Pencil mark on preliminary and title page in volume 6. Preliminary lacking from volumes 8, 9,10, and 11. Leaves numbered 77 to 80 detached in volume 11 but present. Volume twelve lacking all before pp.vii. Half of preliminary lacking from volume 13. Bottom corner of preliminary in volume 14 torn off.
