Bishop Burnet's History of His Own Time. London: Thomas Ward, 1724.
-------------------
FIRST EDITION of Burnet's History, the first volume only, as often, as a second volume was not published until ten years later. This volume is, however, complete in what it intends to account, and a lovely example of it, containing a very detailed account of the history of England between the English Civil War and the Glorious Revolution of 1689. The second volume continued this up until 1713.
-------------------
Size: 240 x 350 mm (approx.)
Condition:
Contemporary quarter calf over paper backed boards, rubbed with losses, joints cracked, tooled label extant but lifting, shelf and edge wear. Both boards remain attached, though slightly fragile; the binding is secure. First two endpapers (blanks) working loose but remain attached. Some inscriptions to said blanks, as well as the title leaf, and in a few other places throughout, one of which comments in two places "this volume complete in itself & perfect". There is, however, some mild foxing in places, notably the title page, but is indeed otherwise a most excellent copy internally, bright and well preserved indeed, complete with the Index, but is the first volume only, of two.
