Selected Works by Charles Dickens, 8vos; FIRST EDITIONS, all in contemporary bindings, some original publisher's bindings, to include:

Master Humphrey's Clock (1840-41); Dombey & Son (1848); Nicholas Nickleby (1839); Pickwick Abroad (by George Reynolds); David Copperfield (1850); Bleak House (1853); The Pickwick Papers (1837); To Be Read At Dusk (1898); Forster's Life of Dickens (1903)

-------------------

A phenomenal collection of first editions by Charles Dickens. The Pickwick Papers is an ideal copy in a contemporary binding, one of the earliest copies issued with 5 of the 7 earliest issue (Smith) points and the suppressed Buss plates meaning it is one of the few copies released prior to November 1836. Nicholas Nickleby is the first issue with all requisite issue points. Master Humphrey's Clock is the first issue. Dombey and Son has all first issue points except one: "Capatin" (pp.324) is corrected to "Captain" in this copy. David Copperfield has most first issue points (coroboration, pp.viii 'i' misaligned, etc), but reads "screwed" not "screamed" on pp.132 line 19. Bleak House is the first issue. Pickwick Abroad (by George Reynolds, not Dickens) is the undated second (or later) edition (see pp.viii), probably circa 1864. Forster's Life of Dickens is a later edition, but finely bound (by Riviere). To Be Read At Dusk is the first collected edition, originally released in The Keepsake in 1852, but also contains other short stories by Dickens; it is in the original publisher's cloth binding.

Condition:

All in contemporary bindings, some in the original publisher's bindings. Conditions are largely typical, with plates oxidised, text generally clean throughout, etc. All bindings are secure with all boards attached. Nicholas Nickleby bound without the half title as typically found. Dombey and Son errata leaf is present, though bound at the front; there is some staining to the frontis and title leaves, plates oxidised, but is otherwise internally reasonably clean. David Copperfield is bound without the advertisements but with the six line errata leaf. Generally an excellent collection of Dickens first editions.
