A fantastic set, indeed being the very scarce full set covering January through to December of both the morning and evening series in eight volumes. Very rare - from what we can see only two sets are held institutionally worldwide.
The set discusses theology, sacred history (the history of the Bible), geography, antiquities, and biographies of important figures. There are some lovely full page plates throughout as pictured.

Contemporary uniform half calf, each bound by W. Smith, Dundee, with their blind-stamped binder's signature to the head of each ffep. Each volume retains its original red and black tooled labels. Bindings rubbed, occasionally discoloured with volume five having some loss to the backstrip at the foot of the spine, and volume seven being more discoloured than the others, as pictured. Joints a little rubbed but with all boards securely attached, bindings secure, and without shelf lean. Top page edges uniformly dulled, else, edges very good. Shelf and edge wear with occasional minor deformation at corners. Some very minor foxing and damp staining to the first and last few pages (mostly endpapers). Without any bookplates or ownership inscriptions, but with the ink ownership stamp of J. M. McBain, Arbroath, to each volume in varying locations, mostly to the upper right corner of the main title page. Very clean throughout the majority of the text blocks. Every volume is bound with a frontis, engraved title page, and a title page. A lovely set.
