The Divine Comedy of Dante Alighieri. Translated by Charles Eliot Norton and published by Houghton, Mifflin, & Co at the Riverside Press, Cambridge in 1903.

-------------------

An absolutely stunning edition of Dante's Divine Comedy in three beautifully bound volumes, finely bound in half morocco over marbled boards with intricate gilt tooling in compartments between raised bands on each spine.

Published at the famous Riverside Press, this edition separates each section of The Divine Comedy: Hell, Purgatory, and Paradise, into separate volumes. It remains surprisingly scarce to find beautifully bound editions of Dante's Divine Comedy which have been translated into English, and this only fuels the desirability for such sets.

Spines uniformly sunned and thus remain highly attractive on the shelf. Light wear to spine extremities. Gilt is bright and attractive. Joints rubbed with all boards securely attached. Boards are very good to near fine with light sunning at the edge. Internally excellent without any foxing etc. Some mild toning throughout the text blocks as typical but essentially internally as excellent as one could hope to find these in. No attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions, a wonderful set.
