-------------------
HUGE folio size, the first one volume unabridged edition of Samuel Johnson's important dictionary of the English language. Textually complete in a nice binding, just needing the reattachment of the boards.
-------------------
Size: 300 x 450 mm (approx.)
Condition:
[(2), frontis, t.p., a2-b2 (preface), c1-h2 (History of English Language), i1-k2 (Grammar of the English Tongue), B1-9Z2, [9Z], A1-4B1, (2)]
Near contemporary half calf, perhaps contemporary (?). Spine is very attractive, lightly rubbed, retaining its original tooled morocco label. All joints and hinges cracked with both boards detached, but present. Boards in typical condition, rubbed with some loss, particularly at the extremities. First two blanks and frontis remain attached to the front board at the hinge. Reattaching these boards should be fairly easy if desired. First and last few leaves creased, else generally very clean throughout the entire text block, indeed internally a lovely example. A few pages a little offset with the last two leaves defective with loss, the final being detached.
