Dr. No by Ian Fleming
FIRST EDITION FIRST IMPRESSION
Published in London by Jonathan Cape in 1958. Printed by the Aldine Press in Oxford.
A superior copy, far greater than typically found.
Bound in the original publisher's cloth binding with the original first impression dust jacket.
-------------------
Text block begins on page 9 and continues uninterrupted to page 256, collated as complete.
This is state B of the binding with the Honeychile silhouette in brown ('the dancing girl'). This is the far more sought after state despite being more common than the plain boards. 'Ian Fleming' is written in black on the dust jacket and not white as called for with the first impression dust jacket. Often second impression dust jackets are put on the first impression book as they present fairly closely, but the copy we are offering for sale has the true first state dust jacket.
Condition:
Spine and boards of the book itself in fine condition. Binding ever so slightly cocked but without any shelf lean. Very minor scratches to the top page edge near the headcap. Text block in fine condition. Small ownership sticker on front pastedown in the top left, completely obscured by the inner dust jacket flap when the dust jacket is on the book. Very minor wear to dust jacket at extremities with light toning and foxing on the rear panel (front and reverse side), with the inner side of the dust jacket toned on the spine panel. Toning to extremities of dust jacket on the internal flaps.
