Num Cento Edute di Roma e sur Vicinanze. Presso Tornmaso Cuccioni Negoziante di Stampe in Roma via della Croce. [1830]

First edition of this collection of plates published by Cuccioni.
A fantastic bound collection of plates showing views in Rome, similar to those of Piranesi, including of course the Colosseum, Arco di Tito, Tempio di Antonino e Faustina, Foro Romano (Roman Forum), Castel S. Angelo, Pantheon, Interno del Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, Basilica di S. Paolo (St Peter's Basilica), Interno della Basilica di S. Pietro, Piazza del Popolo, etc.

-------------------

Heidelberg University attributes the date to 1830 and the artists to Achille Parbone and Tomasso Cuccioni. Interestingly these are not copies of Piranesi's views of Rome but are rather similar.

Size: 240 x 180 mm (approx.)

Condition:

Front plate (title plate) heavily toned and darkened else the plates are bright throughout and show nicely. Some minor foxing in the gutter and occasionally around the marginal spaces (to the plates towards the front of the collection) with the majority of the plates bright, clean, and free of foxing. Stain affecting the final 32 plates. The stain starts from the final plate and as such the effect becomes less as one approaches the front of the collection until 32 plates from the back where the stain no longer affects the sheets. Some loss to the bottom of the final plate as well as to the extremities. Minor loss at the corners to the first and last few plates with occasional closed tears at the extremities throughout as typical.
