A beautiful copy of one of the finest productions of Euripides' works. It is a very rare edition, printed in Greek and Latin. This is the Chatsworth copy of this book in a beautiful contemporary fine binding.

Presentation inscription on the second free endpaper blank recto reading "Presented to The Marquis of Hartington by the Revd J.B."

From the important aristocratic library of the Duke of Devonshire at Chatsworth House with his bookplate to the front pastedown, containing one of the finest libraries in England.

Contemporary full calf finely decorated in gilt. Very finely rebacked preserving essentially the entirety of the original backstrip, very difficult to notice the rebacking occurred. The spine retains both original tooled green morocco labels, very attractive. Hinges reinforced, preserving the original marbled endpapers & pastedowns. Bookplate to front pastedown. Presentation inscription to recto of second blank with a later pencil inscription which reads "First edition edited by Earl of Bridgewater". Some foxing to endpapers else very clean and bright throughout. Contemporary marginalia in light neat pencil throughout the full text block. A very good to near fine copy.
