Uniform near contemporary full tree calf (also known as marbled calf) bindings, bound by Riviere & Son (i.e. after 1880). Externally incredibly attractive indeed. Spines uniformly sunned with the gilt remaining very bright and attractive. Very light rubbing to spines. Light shelf wear. Joints fine with all boards securely attached. Boards all fine except the rear board of the second volume which has a scratch. Page edges near fine/fine with top edges slightly dulled. Prize bookplate to front pastedown of each volume dated July 1889. Without any foxing etc internally. Very clean through each text block, internally fine. Collated as complete through each volume.
