-------------------
An early edition of the monumental biography of Admiral Michiel de Ruyter (1607–1676), the celebrated Dutch naval hero who led the Republic’s fleets during the Anglo-Dutch Wars. Written by theologian and historian Gerard Brandt at the request of De Ruyter’s family, this book covers his life, campaigns, and character, drawing from firsthand accounts and official documents. Finely printed in Amsterdam by Wolfgang, Waasberge, Boom, van Someren, and Goethals, it remains one of the finest 17th century Dutch biographical works and an essential primary source on the Dutch Golden Age navy.
