Pen ownership signatures on preliminary page in both volumes, dating 1860. Marks on preliminaries. Some wear to case, including scuffing, rubbing, spots of discolouration, and small tears on the back (see last photo). The bottom of the case has become partially unstuck with a broken joint. A screw is missing from the case clasp insert and it is generally a little tricky to open. Some minor wear to cloth interior. The joint attaching the top of the case to the body is worn and it is partially becoming detached (see photo).
