The Rules and Exercises of Holy Living by Jeremy Taylor. London: J. Heptinstall, 1706. [Together with] The Rules and Exercises of Holy Dying by Jeremy Taylor. London: J.L. for John Meredith, 1706, 8vo.
-------------------
An excellent copy of Jeremy Taylor’s famous Rules of Holy Living and Holy Dying, here both are bound together, despite the tooled label to the spine indicating just the Living volume. Complete with the two famous fine foldout plates and two engraved titles, usually lacking. A very attractive copy in a 20th century fine binding.

[(1), A1-A7, foldout plate, A8, B1-Y8, A1-A8, foldout plate, B1-S4, (2)]
20th century half calf binding with compartments ruled in gilt, the spine affixed with a fine tooled morocco label and a gilt date to the foot. Spine a little sunned but presents very attractively indeed on the shelf. Minor rubbing along the joints, but overall a very good binding. Textually collates as complete, though lacks all original blanks, here replaced with modern blanks commensurate with the binding. No attached bookplates, though with the ink ownership inscription to the head of A2 (second title) of Edward Hennick dated April 22nd 1836. This title has a minor leaf edge repair at the fore-edge, not affecting the text. The main engraved title page is detached and ragged at the edges with losses, but present. The remainder of the text block through both works is exceptionally clean and bright, indeed this is a remarkably well preserved copy in a very attractive binding.
