-------------------

A very attractive edition of Saint John Chrysostom's De Sacerdotio, together with Gregory of Nazianzus' Apologetic Oration, printed in Cambridge, England, edited by John Hughes and revised by Thomas Thirlby. A most complementary duo of fourth-century Eastern patristic texts giving an early Christian view on the nature, dignity, and spiritual responsibilities of the Christian priesthood. This copy is particularly notable for its beautiful Cambridge panelled binding, finely rebacked, being a beautifully presented copy.

Size: 125 x 197 mm (approx.)

Condition:

Contemporary Cambridge panelled binding, finely rebacked with the title tooled in gilt to the upper spine. Both boards securely attached, binding secure. Binding slightly rubbed, minor wear to edges and corners, else externally a very smart and attractive copy indeed. Text block mildly toned, else internally bright clean. Later pastedowns and blanks, but with the original blanks also extant at each end. Some small neat inscriptions to the blanks, one from the Farington family dated 1792 (Oxfordshire).
