Provenance:
Gilt crest on front board and bookplate of Repton School, with the motto 'porta vacat culpa' (the gate is free from fault); the motto is a quote from Ovid's Fasti. Repton School is a private school in Derbyshire founded by a fund left by Sir John Port of Etwall in 1557. Upon its founding, the school was called Repton Priory and only accepted boys. Girls started to enrol in the school in the 1970s.

Condition: 

Spine and parts of the boards are sunned. Spine with minor rubbing. Both boards attached with prominent rubbing to joints and minor wear to hinges. Front joint starting. Boards with minor scuffing, scratches, and rubbing. Boards lightly rubbed. Shelf and edge wear. Toning to page edges. Bookplate attached to front pastedown. Preliminary and half title folded over at the top causing very small tears. Text block extremely clean with very sporadic very minor foxing. Uncollated.
