FIRST EDITION, finely bound by Francis Bedford in uniform full calf with particularly attractive gilt decorated tooled labels.

Spines with very minor rubbing and wear to heads. Small fragment of backstrip lacking from the top of volume one. All boards attached with most joints and hinges cracked, thus fragile and would benefit from professional rebacking, though on the shelf look very attractive indeed. Boards with minor scratches and scuffing. Very minor shelf and edge wear. Minor foxing to page edges. Minor shelf lean to volume one. Very small sticker with the name "Frederic Hartmann" and a small "R. D. Steedman, Bookseller..." sticker attached to front pastedown in both volumes. Binder's stamp to the top left corner of the reverso of the ffep in both volumes. Text blocks extremely clean with light toning and very sporadic very minor foxing. Some leaves unevenly trimmed.
