Size: 100 x 164 mm (approx.)

Condition:

[(1), t.p., [12], 533pp, i, (1)]

Contemporary (or near) plain full vellum binding, without external identification. Vellum discoloured as typical with some small stains to the rear board. Front hinge cracked with the backstrip subsequently separated from the page block, but attached from the rear hinge. Collates as complete. First two leaves, including blank and title page, detached, but present. Errata leaf also detached but present, at the rear. Some early writing to front pastedown, with an ink ownership inscription to front blank dated February 24th 1680, a few other ink inscriptions of varying date, some very early, probably contemporary. Title leaf ragged at edges, closed tears, else text block free of such impediments, save for a few dog-eared leaves in places. Text block toned throughout as typical, but generally clean, the full text legible without loss of sense, some gatherings more heavily toned, such as Q.

A lovely early copy of Lucan's Pharsalia.
