Parisiis: F. Muguet, 1673

A Latin translation of a key section of Maimonides’ Mishneh Torah, specifically addressing the laws of marriage (De re uxoria) within Jewish civil and religious jurisprudence. This work is a systematic treatment of matrimonial law as codified by one of the foremost authorities in medieval Jewish legal thought, offering early modern readers access to rabbinic legal tradition without needing to know Hebrew.

A notably fresh and clean copy in an attractive contemporary Parisian binding. Rare in commerce.

Size: 121 x 181 mm (approx.)

Condition:

[(1) ā8, ē8, A-N8, (1)]

Collates as complete, including N8 (blank). Contemporary Parisian full speckled calf, spine attractively tooled in gilt compartments between five raised bands, title lettered in gilt. Binding a little rubbed, mild wear to extremities, but generally exceptionally well preserved indeed. Both boards securely attached, binding secure. No attached bookplates, largely faded small old probably institutional inventory stamp to ffep (‘L236’) with a small contemporary ink inscription to the rear pastedown ‘ouoxo’. Text block mildly toned, the occasional small spot, else very clean throughout.

A fine copy.
