A beautiful set, finely contemporaneously bound in full calf, very much in the Louis XVI manner. A very attractive set.

This work by Pierre de Bourdeille, also known as Seigneur de Brantôme, is a collection of memoirs which blends historical narrative with personal anecdotes, providing a detailed account of the important figures of this time period in France, including King Henry IV and Admiral Coligny, etc.

Contemporary full calf with gilt titles and decorative designs to spines in the style of Louis XVI. All boards securely attached with rubbing along joints. Small losses to backstrips at the heads and bottoms of spines. Boards rubbed and scuffed. Shelf and edge wear. Page edges red with some spots of loss. Ink ownership inscription to front pastedown in all volumes. Endpapers offset. Text blocks very clean with light toning and occasional foxing. Table in volume four bound in the rear rather than in the front like in volumes one to three.
