Provenance: Bookplate of Mark Everard Pepys (1903 - 1943), Sixth Earl of Cottenham, with the motto "mens cujusque is est quisque", translating to "each man's character is his true self". Pepys was a man of many career paths, including being a member of the House of Lords, baronet, motor racing driver, author, lieutenant, and an MI5 officer.

Spine sunned with minor scuffing and scratches. Tooled label present. Both boards secretly attached with minor wear to joints and cracked hinges. Boards with very minor scuffing. Shelf and edge wear. Dulling to page edges. Bookplate attached to front pastedown. Endpapers toned and foxed. Text block fairly clean with light toning and minor foxing. Uncollated but appears complete.
