Lacking the title page, but the collation matches that of other copies of the first edition as does the typography etc. Some copies differ in the number of pages of additional material such as index, subscriber's lists, advertisements, etc., those that differ have fewer pages and do not mention the advertisement which is present here. Some copies call for 43 plates, and others do not mention a number. There is only one plate present here, between pp.306 and pp.307, depicting the martyrdom of the Bishops of Ridley and Latimer at Oxford.
Quarter calf over marbled paper backed boards with a red tooled label in a compartment to the spine between raised bands lined with gilt. Rebacked. Spine near fine with minor signs of wear, small tears to the bottom of the backstrip. Boards rubbed and scuffed with some paper fragments lacking. Shelf and edge wear. Page edges toned with some dampstaining. Pencil ownership inscription to front pastedown. Front blank lacking, there is a replacement blank added. Lacking title page. Lacking frontispiece if called for. Text block fairly clean with some toning and occasional foxing, and minor dampstaining to leaf edges. Small tear to the inner margin of pp.11/12. Lacking remaining plates if called for. A lovely reading copy in an attractive modern binding.
