Dickens' biographer, Peter Ackroyd says in his work that Nicholas Nickleby "has some title to being the funniest novel Dickens ever wrote; it is perhaps the funniest novel in the English language" (pp.262)

Modern blue half bonded leather binding overlaid with gilt with a tooled black morocco label. Binding externally fine and shows very attractively indeed on the shelf. Both boards securely attached. Binding secure without shelf lean. Top edge gilt. Endpapers replaced. Lacks one plate (provided in facsimile at the rear), else collates as complete. Some repairs to the fronts, which has been remounted. Text block toned with text generally very clean. Plates oxidised as typical, to varying degrees, most being reasonably presentable.
