Though this copy lacks the title leaf (as very common for early editions of this work!), it is extremely bright and clean internally and preserved in its very attractive contemporary binding. There were a large number of editions of this printed owing to its popularity throughout the 18th century. This appears to be one of the earlier editions, without illustrations, and so is likely circa 1720, but could date somewhere else within the 18th century, probably no earlier than c.1700 and likely not after c.1750 as the later editions tended to be more elaborate. This corresponds closely to the sixth edition of 1716 but with minor typographic differences in setting suggesting an edition close in date to this.

Contemporary full calf, boards stamped in blind in a panelled design. Original tooled red morocco label extant to spine. Spine compartments ruled in gilt. Both boards securely attached, joints cracked. Binding rubbed with minor loss to leather at the extremities of the backstrip. Minor shelf wear. An attractive contemporary binding.

Lacks title leaf but with the similarly often lacking frontispiece here extant, but otherwise collates as complete through the text, signed in twos throughout. Minor dampstaining to head of final few leaves, only really prominently visible in Revelation & the final two blanks, but with the full text legible without loss of sense throughout. Otherwise, the text block is exceptionally bright and clean throughout. Some foxing to front pastedown and front free endpaper, extensive inscription to front pastedown dated 1852 pertaining to the Bush family. Leaf A1 creased without loss. Otherwise internally exceptional.

A very good copy with the only major fault being the lacking title leaf.
