The FIRST EDITION in one volume and bound in the original publisher's cloth with the original spine rebacked on contemporary cloth, preserving the majority of it with the original boards.
Very rare in the original cloth, particularly this version.

As noted by Smith, the first single volume edition of Oliver Twist was published whilst the ten monthly parts were still being issued - on 26 September 1846. Eckel notes that the price of the monthly parts was 10 shillings, but "that of the bound volume 11 shillings".

Condition:

Text block extremely clean with very light toning and very sporadic very minor foxing. Spine rebacked. Both boards securely attached. Very minor scuffing, rubbing and marks on boards. Some minor wear to corners. Lightly warped spine. Page edges toned with very minor foxing. Half title lightly toned with very minor foxing, and very light pencil inscription. Title page lightly toned with very minor foxing. Plates lightly toned with very minor to minor foxing. Some plates have offset onto the verso page. More prominent foxing on leaves numbered pp. 41/42, 307/308, 309/310, & 311/312,  and plates: ' Oliver introduced to the respectable old gentleman', 'Fagin in the condemned cell', & 'Rose Maylie and Oliver'.
