A notably rare edition of this very interesting work which discusses Church history and the Pagan influences in Christian practices/liturgy etc. One might refer to this book as the 19th century precursor to Frank Viola's Pagan Christianity!

Half brown calf over marbled paper backed boards, rebacked, with a green tooled label in a compartment to the spine between raised bands. Both boards securely attached with reinforcement to hinges from the rebacking. Some of the original leather fragments from the joint area lacking and worn, but the remaining ones attached in the rebacking. Binding rubbed and scuffed. Shelf and edge wear. Marbled page edges dulled. Text block very clean with very light toning and foxing. Top corner of v/vi cut off. Lacking rear endpapers.
