-------------------
A very good set of Langhorne's famous edition of Plutarch's biographies of notable Greek and Roman figures, written circa the 1st century AD. This set is complete in six volumes and shows particularly attractively on the shelf in uniform full tree calf bindings with particularly lovely boards.

Size: 182 x 110 mm (approx., each)

Condition:

Spines a little rubbed but show well with all original tooled red morocco labels present. Some gilt loss, notably to the volume numbering, though all remain legible. Some shelf wear and wear to extremities with chips to the leather at the head of the spines with some minor loss. Some joints starting and slightly tender but with all boards attached. Extremely slight shelf lean to volumes 5 & 6 but not particularly aesthetically intrusive on the shelf. Top page edges dulled as typical but generally the page edges are very good. Boards are all very good or better with most near fine, some with the occasional small mark. The front board of the first volume is darker than all of the others. Text blocks toned with some very minor foxing affecting a few leaves, mostly to the endpapers as typical. Else the text blocks are fully legible. Frontispiece in the first volume heavily toned. Ink ownership inscription to front pastedowns of P. J. LeCointe (?), undated but probably circa early 19th century. The first volume's pastedown has two red stains, probably from wax seals (?).
