Self Portrait, after Leonardo da Vinci (Italian, 1452-1519), signed on the rear by Carlo Brighenti (Italian, c.19th century).

A beautifully executed composition after Leonardo da Vinci's famous self portrait held at the Uffizi gallery in Florence, Italy. The painting is signed to a label on the verso by the Italian artist Carlo Brighenti. It was likely executed during the mid 19th century and the rococo giltwood frame is likely of this period too and is in notably excellent condition. The quality of the composition is very high indeed, for which in this case the photos don't quite serve it justice as this was a difficult piece to photograph due to the reflections from the glaze, and hence the angle on many of the photos.

Brighenti is an artist very rare to see the open market, with only one of his works ever being offered for sale at auction in 2012 in America. This is a museum quality portrait of Leonardo da Vinci from the 19th century.

Condition:

Some minor loss to the bottom. Some very minor craquelure not visible under normal viewing conditions. Slightly uneven glaze with some impasto to da Vinci's torso and hat. The bottom of the frame has been repaired and thus shows some cracks upon close inspection, but is structurally fine. The repairs have been expertly done and at a normal viewing distance are not aesthetically intrusive.
