Accompanied with a Bernard Quaritch Ltd catalogue from 1978, number 989, which has this book, entry 137, in it. The lot is outlined in a pen to make it easy to find. Quaritch sold this copy for $850 in 1978. The catalogue says the following about this book:

"The first English edition of the work which did much to encourage the use of this then recently invented art form. We are indebted to Senefelder for his invention, not only for a furtherance of book production and illustration but also for the posters of Toulous-Lautree and the works of Goya, Bonnard, Vuillard, Whistler and Picasso in this medium."

It is quite a scarce book, a copy recently sold at Freeman's Hindman May 20th 2021 lot 114 for $2,016 (USD).

Half black morocco over marbled paper backed boards with a red tooled label in a compartment to the spine between raised bands, raised bands lined with gilt and the bottom compartment has the gilt date on it. Binding near fine with very minor wear. Both boards securely attached. Page edges dulled. Rebound with new pastedowns and endpapers. Tear to the top outer corner of the frontispiece and title page. Text block very clean with light toning and occasional foxing and marks. pagination resets after pp.85 and continues with 91, which also occurs in the WorldCat copy. Ink inscription to the front of the catalogue. Entry 137 outlined in pen in the catalogue.
