Contemporary full calf with red tooled labels between raised bands and gilt volume numbers, gilt dulled. One tooled label lacking with only a very small fragment remains. All boards attached with most joints and hinges cracked, thus some fragile. Bindings rubbed with some losses to heads and bottoms of spines. Boards scuffed and rubbed. Top corner of the rear board of volume five with loss and the leather folded over. Shelf and edge wear, more so to corners with some loss. Dulling to page edges, with top page edges darker as typical. No attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions. Some volumes with minor shelf lea, but remain vertical and show attractively on the shelf. Text blocks very clean with light toning to edges and very occasional foxing. Damp stains in volume five from about pp.356 to rear pastedown with the last few leaves having some loss which does not affect any text. Very small wormhole to the top outer corner of the last few leaves of volume seven, only affecting the page numbers but legible.
