The Adoration of the Christ Child by Leopoldo Dumini (Italian, 1825-1908), after the original by Antonio da Correggio (Italian, 1489-1534) held in the Uffizi Gallery, Florence.
Signed and inscribed to a label on the verso by the artist.
-------------------
An incredibly well executed oil on canvas composition after Correggio's masterpiece of the high Renaissance, originally dating from circa 1526, with this painting likely being executed circa 1880. It is housed in a stunning and very complimentary ornately carved rococo frame, also of the period of the late 19th century which is in remarkably excellent condition.
-------------------
This painting follows the same proportions as the original. "The original entered the Uffizi Gallery in 1617 as a gift from Ferdinando Gonzaga to Cosimo de Medici. It dates from the artist's matuirty, after the frescoes for the Camera di San Paolo, if not also after those in the dome of San Giovanni Evangelista at Parma. The luminous landscape answers the brightness that emanates from the Child and which lights up the whole figure of the Virgin, who is kneeling with her arms parted in a very expressive gesture of adoration. Yet the tenderness with which her motherly feeling is conveyed does not detract from the impressiveness of the divine image, which is even heightened by the colours of her dress and cloak, brilliant in the miraculous light."

Size:
Including frame: 115 x 98 cm (approx.)
Excluding frame: 80 x 68.5 cm (approx).
Condition:
Unlined oil on canvas attached to a wooden stretcher and framed. The tension in the canvas is a little slack but shows very well indeed on the wall and this slackness is only noticeable when the painting is taken off of the wall. There is a small repair on the reverse side with a canvas patch and some general craquelure as commensurate with the age. There are a few old retouches though these are quite practically imperceptible at a normal viewing distance. Slightly yellowed varnish but overall very even. The frame is in notably excellent condition just with some incredibly minor loss to the gilt at the corners.
