20th century full blue morocco with Cosway style inlay to the front board, circumscribed in gilt with rear board tooled in gilt backed onto a lighter blue morocco surrounded by a thin black morocco boarder. Raised bands to spine delineating compartments lined in gilt with titles finely tooled in gilt. Spine uniformly sunned but shows very attractively on the shelf indeed. Similar sunning at the top edge of boards thought fairly minor. Both boards are very attractive and without significant wear. Very small bump to the head of the rear board, but this could be a natural defect of the leather. Joints and hinges fine with boards securely attached. The binding firm and without shelf lean. Extremely minor shelf wear, the corners without deformity. Turn-ins lined in gilt as with the edges of the boards. Without any attached bookplates or ownership inscriptions, but with a binder sticker to the foot of the rear endpaper, bound by A. D. Constance, Bristol. Page edges all very good or better. Sown head and tail pieces fine. Extremely clean throughout text block with small occasional marks affecting a very small number of leaves, the most affected being pp.17 (pictured). Collated as complete with the advertisements at the rear and the two half titles.
